A Note From Nurse Laura...

It's cold and flu season!

The CDC recommends a few simple steps to help curb the spread of the virus.
Take every day preventative actions to stop the spread of germs; wash hands (often) with soap and water.  If soap is not available use an alcohol based sanitizer.  Cover cough & sneeze with tissue and dispose of tissue in a trash can, wash again.  Do not touch your eyes or mouth.
If you're sick - stay home.
With flu like symptoms do not return to school or work until you have been fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medication.
Take the time to get your flu vaccine.   “Flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, doctors’ visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations."

On Thursday, January 10th, 2019 the Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation (OLSHF) will be conducting free vision screenings for all Jewell students in attendance on this date.      The digital Spot Vision Screener can detect a number of potential eye conditions.  This is a far more detailed test than the traditional vision screening that we conduct annually at the school.  The goal of the Mobile Health Screening Program (MHSP) is to detect sight problems before they become serious.  You will be receiving a detailed report that you can share with your eye health professional.

These problems include:

Myopia (nearsightedness)

Hyperopia (farsightedness)

Astigmatism (blurred vision)

Anisometropia (unequal refractive power)

Strabismus (eye misalignment)

Anisocoria (unequal pupil size)

Please note that this screening is not intended to replace the annual eye exam that we recommend by an eye care professional.

If your child wears glasses be sure to have them bring them to the screening.  Save the date and be sure to have your child participate in this wonderful event

Be kind, it matters.
